Alcoa Australia Unitedway Corporate Head Of The River

Over the weekend I went down to Geelong to watch and be patron for the Alcoa Australia Unitedway Corporate Head Of The River, a community charity event that I am very proud to be part of. What an event it has develop into. This year was the 10th anniversary and with 60+ crews and a level of funds raised expected to be around $110,000. This would take the total for the event over the 10 years to $600,000+ which is a fantastic effort by all involved. The team behind the sense should be congratulated with past and present doing a great job to create an event that has a wonderful community feel and it has developed a carnival atmosphere. The event is showcasing another side to the sport and one that the rowing community should support and be proud of. What I love most about it is that all the participants start the preparation usually as novices and the take on the challenge of racing with their crews with great spirit and enthusiasm. The coaches all do a fantastic job working with their crews to prepare them for racing. It highlights the importance of giving people the opportunity to have a go at our sport and enjoy the benefits of working closely together others to not only row a boat as well as they could, but to do it with the focus of making a difference in there community. Final I have to say there is a huge amount of work that goes in to this type of event. The team at Unitedway are amazing and the other members of the organising committee are equally amazing. The first 10 years has sensational to see the development of an event that will continue to go from strength to strength.
